My first official movie of the summer was worth the price of admission. Thor is a solid summer flick. It will probably hold it's own against the many other superhero movies coming out this summer, but is doubtful to be the best. Nice visuals, 3d worked, and a story that was easy to follow makes THOR a good pick; just not a great one. If you have limited opportunity to get out to the movies this summer, you might want to wait for X-men or Green Lantern.
Yes - I went to see it. Yes - It was worth a full price ticket. And, Yes - I will go see it again; which is something I haven't done in many years (see a movie in the theater twice)
The sci-fi plot was as tight as you can get with a universe as big as the Star Trek Universe. Time travel has always been a mainstay of Star Trek. The newest movie uses time travel and alternate versions of reality to lay open a whole new frontier for the reincarnations of the original crew of the starship Enterprise.
The movie had some surprising twists (compounded by some deceptive advertising and well kept secrets) and plenty of action. The new actors seemed to comfortably take on the mantles of their predecessors, assuming some of the quirks of the original cast, while bringing along their own unique foibles. I particularly got a kick out of Scottie's new sailor worthy vocabulary. And I continue to cringe at Kirk's nut smashing leg cross when sitting in the command chair.
I'm sure their are many die hard trekkies out there who have found faults with the movie. Don't look so hard! This entry into the saga is as worthy as the best of the other movies. My question - what's next? A second movie? A TV spin-off? A couple hundred new Star Trek Novels? The universe is wide open once again.
Took the kids to see the new x-men movie - wolverine. I enjoyed the movie, despite some glaring inconsistencies within the movie and within the franchise of movies. Most troublesome to me, in the movie, was the horrible sequence in the alley with Gambit (you'll have to see the movie to follow this). Logan knocks out Gambit and goes after Sabretooth. There is a scene cut, and we see Gambit running across the roofs of New Orleans and flying into the alley -- where he was last seen unconscious -- wielding some wicked powers from a staff. Bad editing or poor choice to include run across the roofs?
Despite the incongruity, it was a great summer flick (first of the season for me) and should be judged as such. The action was paced well through the movie. There were scenes with different characters that you wish would have gone longer, but the movie was about Wolverine, not all the mutants. And Liev Schreiber was a kick butt Sabretooth (much better than Tyler Mane in the original X-men movie). I'd say - x-men geek or not - brain candy that is worth the ticket for an entertaining evening.
Went to see Harry with Jerry and his girl, Ms. Hedder, and Ang. We saw it at the Campus Theater in Lewisburg and it was a good crowd. Applause at the end of the movie.
The movie was well done. Being the largest of the novels, I didn't expect that it would have every part of the book in the movie. It didn't. But it may have been the best movie yet for catching the 'feel' of the book. Umbridge's character was very well played. The movie kept a brisk pace. It wasn't as thrill packed as Transformers or Die Hard, but it never lost my interest.
The sets and effects captured the magic of Harry Potter perfectly. The movie transported me to a different world for over two hours and entertained. Well worth the ticket.
Wow! Went to see Transformers last night. What a fun movie. A little light on story, the action more than made up for plot problems. The effects - well - this is the best effects movie yet.
I was impressed by the number of big names involved in this movie. Many directors, producers, and writers mention how they loved comics as kids. Apparently many of them also loved the Transformers.
A big screen 'must'. Do not wait for this one to come out on DVD. It won't be near as good on the small screen.
I know I'm getting a little video heavy, but this trailer really caught my attention.
I used to get out into the wild. What happened? I have kids (other peoples kids) that require attention, bills to pay, 30 or 40 extra pounds of fat, and to many years of wear. But that never stopped Roy! Maybe I need to rethink some things?
I have a new neighbor. He moved into the third floor apartment next to mine. He had a U-haul truck full of stuff (some of it very big) and no-one to help unload it. I started to help him. Jimmie and Jerry helped when they got home. And then Eddie and a friend of Juniors joined in. It took quite a while to move everything.
After we got done I took the lads up to Pardee to let them try the rope swing. Jerry is a veteran.

I chose the wrong team for the first game. I figured New Orleans would win.

Now I am waiting to see if my second pick comes through. I picked the Patriots. I'd rather the Colts win, but I had to pick who I thought would win, not who I wanted to win.
I saw a neat preview on the Disney channel today (joys of raising kids - I get to watch Disney Channel). Looks like they are making a live action version of Underdog. I will see if I can find a trailer on the net.
Meanwhile, here is a pic or two from '300'. I saw a "making of" on this movie. The actors all wear virtual chests and have their bodies digitized. They are not as studly as they appear. Still, looks like a cool action flick.
